A website has 0.05 seconds to earn a user’s trust and attention before they click off. Webflow, a no-code website development platform, creates stylistic websites that leave lasting impressions. However, managing styling for elements within Webflow’s Designer requires manual effort and lacks intuitive features that thousands of users have requested in the Webflow Wishlist. The Clinic team developed a Webflow tool that supports creating, merging and editing different types of styles. These features encourage and streamline the web development experience.

Wayfair is an e-commerce company specializing in furniture and home goods. One of Wayfair’s challenges is standardizing information across a vast catalog of furniture from thousands of suppliers. This is especially problematic for assembly manuals, as customers struggle to assemble furniture when faced with inconsistent and unclear instructions. The Wayfair Clinic team tackled this problem with an app that provides a standard interface for assembly manuals using state-of-the-art AI tools to enhance and simplify the assembly experience.

UNITE HERE is a North American labor union that represents over 300,000 service and hospitality workers. To secure better benefits and protections for workers, negotiators must find related labor contracts with precedents they can reference at the bargaining table. To help negotiators retrieve, compare and analyze contracts, the Clinic team designed a retrieval augmented generation (RAG) system based on a locally implemented LLM with clear citations and end-to-end privacy.

The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) uses science to recommend policy solutions to national issues. To improve the health of our democracy, UCS has incentive to research voting systems and their impact on policy. The Clinic team was tasked with analyzing local elections in North Carolina to better understand how proportional representation—an alternative voting system—could affect election outcomes. Using North Carolina election data, the team developed a new method to simulate election outcomes under various voting systems.

The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) is a nonprofit organization that puts rigorous, independent science into action. UCS advocates for multibenefit land repurposing in California’s agricultural regions, which turns irrigated cropland into sustainable land alternatives that help the environment, economy and community wellbeing. We developed an educational video game (Common Ground) which simulates multibenefit land repurposing planning in a multiplayer setting and encourages players to strategize how to bring the most benefit to their town.

Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley seek to evaluate the real-world impacts of diesel emission control technologies that have been standardized on newer heavy-duty diesel trucks in California to help inform future health and climate policies. However, the manual analysis of truck emission data is laborious and time-consuming. Using machine learning, the team developed an application that automates the analysis of truck emissions using synchronized sensor data while emphasizing reliability, usability and controllability.

Tradeweb is a leader in electronic trading marketplaces serving institutional, wholesale and retail investors. To support a shift toward 24/7 trading, Tradeweb is enabling clients to trade financial instruments via smart contracts on the Canton Network, the first public blockchain designed for institutional finance. The goal of this project was to build an internal application for developers that facilitates creating and viewing smart contracts in order to accelerate the development of Tradeweb products that empower clients to trade on the Canton Network.

There are over 80 million active landmines in post-conflict areas all over the world. Sokil is a humanitarian demining startup which aims to use low-cost sensor systems to autonomously detect landmines under light brush. The Sokil team has constructed a hand-portable LIDAR scanner, designed various light detection and ranging (LIDAR) algorithms, and performed field testing to compare the performance of their algorithms against modern sUAV imaging techniques.

ServiceNow provides software leveraging AI to optimize workflows in enterprise environments. Uncovering actionable insights in complex datasets is important in any enterprise software. Many widely adopted methods require a baseline understanding of the properties of underlying data, which limits the efficacy of existing solutions when applied to the enterprise use cases. LLMs offer the opportunity to augment existing specialized and highly technical clustering methods with interactive natural language, thus boosting capabilities and enabling data exploration on the fly. We built this conversational interface for clustering datasets, equipping users to explore multiple themes and gain understanding of high-dimensional data, adding the capability to interactively and iteratively perform clustering.

The Clinic team, working with Qualcomm, provides important development tools that help architects who design RISC-V specifications as well as end users and tool developers who consume the information. Qualcomm is a founding member of RISC-V International (RVI), which was formed to standardize the open-source RISC-V specification. A major project of RVI is the Unified Database (UDB), which functions as a machine-readable RISC-V specification, as a “source of truth” for all development. The Clinic team created an integrated development environment with tools that make it easier for users to write and understand hardware specifications for the UDB with features similar to those available for software developers.
