It includes the costs that we bill directly to students, such as tuition, the student body fee, housing, and food. It also includes the average amount students spend for books, supplies, personal expenses and transportation. HMC does not bill for these costs, but to ensure all students have access to the necessary resources to succeed and in and out of the classroom we include these expenses as part of the total cost of attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep in mind, most students and their families do not pay the full cost of attendance each year. Students who receive need based financial aid, merit scholarships or other types of funding only pay the for costs after aid has been subtracted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cost of attendance for the 2026-2027 school year is provided below. Our <a href=\"https:\/\/npc.collegeboard.org\/app\/hmc\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/npc.collegeboard.org\/app\/hmc\">Net Price Calculator <\/a>can provide an estimate of the need-based aid that you may qualify for using the same process the Office of Financial Aid uses when determining aid eligibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-fixed-first-col\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>Item<\/th><th>Description<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><th>Tuition<\/th><td>Tuition is billed to the student. Our COA includes the cost as a full time student.<\/td><\/tr><tr><th>Student Body Fee<\/th><td>The student fee goes entirely to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/ashmc\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/ashmc\/\">Associated Students of HMC<\/a>(ASHMC) to support student activities and clubs on campus.<\/td><\/tr><tr><th>Housing<\/th><td>HMC is a residential campus with 98% of students choosing to live on campus all four years. All first year students are required to live on campus. Students that live on campus are charged the same housing rate for a single, double or triple. If approved to live off campus, we use a typical housing budget regardless of how much you spend.<\/td><\/tr><tr><th>Food <\/th><td>There are several different meal plans to choose from, but for financial aid purposes we include the cost for the most comprehensive meal plan, 19 meals per week. You may change your meal plan each semester, but your financial aid does not change if you select a less expensive meal plan. If approved to live off campus, we use a typical food budget regardless of how much you spend.<\/td><\/tr><tr><th>Personal Expenses<\/th><td>HMC estimates this amount to cover expenses such as laundry, personal care items, clothes, cell phone service and other costs. We use this amount regardless of how much you spend.<\/td><\/tr><tr><th>Books and Supplies (estimated)<\/th><td>HMC estimates out of pocket expenses regardless of how much you spend. Your costs can vary based on the required materials in the classes you take.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Transportation<\/strong><\/td><td>HMC includes the average cost for two round trips between your permanent home and Los Angeles. This amount varies by student and is included in the budget detailed on your Financial Aid Offer. This amount remains the same regardless of how much you spend.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Orientation Fee<\/strong><\/td><td>Entering first-year and transfer students are charged an orientation fee in the fall semester to support the costs of orientation activities.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Student Health Insurance Fee<\/strong> <strong>(SHIP)<\/strong><\/td><td>All students are required to have health insurance coverage and therefore those enrolled will have this included in their cost of attendance. If students have comparable coverage (for example through their parent&#8217;s health insurance) they do not need to enroll in the plan.
