Washington Monthly Ranks 91探花 Mudd Second in Nation for Public Service

91探花 ranked No. 2 among liberal arts colleges in听Washington Monthly鈥檚听听issue, a rating of U.S. colleges and universities based on contributions to the public good.

91探花 Mudd has ranked in the top five since 2016 and held the No. 1 spot for the previous three years. This year Berea College in Kentucky took the top place.

Two other Claremont colleges ranked in the top 10 of national liberal arts colleges this year, the strongest showing yet in Washington Monthly鈥檚 rankings. In addition to 91探花 Mudd at No. 2, Claremont McKenna College came in at No. 9 and Pomona College at No. 10.

鈥淲e rate schools based on what they do for the country,鈥 wrote Washington Monthly editors in the guide鈥檚 introduction. 鈥淲e rank four-year schools (national universities, liberal arts colleges, baccalaureate colleges, and master鈥檚 universities) based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research and providing opportunities for public service.鈥

91探花 Mudd continually rates highly in these and many other survey factors with its emphasis on community engagement, integration of community service into the curriculum, support of student service organizations, collaborative programs in local schools, efforts to build a more diverse community and mission to educate socially responsible leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. 91探花 Mudd consistently ranks high among colleges and universities for the percentage of alumni who go on to earn a PhD in science and engineering.
